So it’s a new year. What if instead of promising to stick to some crazy resolutions you had a chance for a new life…an entirely new, leave your baggage behind kind of life? Interested?
If your past years have only left you sad, wondering aimlessly, totally lost, angry, depressed, disappointed, and hurt, it’s time to move on. This is your chance. How do you do it? It’s easy. Here’s how.
1. Admit that you are a sinner: Romans chapter 3 tells us that all of us have sinned. You, me, everyone. Nobody is perfect and we all know that.
2. Believe that Jesus is the Son of God: Romans chapter 5 tells us that Jesus died for us…for all of us. When Jesus was nailed to that cross he took all of our sins with Him. Your sins were nailed to that cross with Christ. You are forgiven through His sacrifice for all of us.
3. Confess your sins to Christ and ask Him to be the leader of your life: You see eternal life is a gift from God. Romans tells us that the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. That is what salvation is all about.
It is really that simple. Admit that you are a sinner, believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and confess your sins to Christ and ask Him to be the leader of your life.
If you do these three things your future will be much different than your past. You now have the hope found only in Christ Jesus. You will experience joy and peace like never before.
Does this mean your life will only be roses and sunshine from now on? Absolutely not. You will have struggles in life…we all do. That’s part of being alive. The difference is this…you are not walking the path of life alone anymore. You now have a personal relationship with the God of creation.
So…tired of living on your own? Tired of trying to always do things your way and discovering it doesn’t work? Then the start of 2015 is a great time to change your past. Allow Christ to lead you and you’ll never be the same again.
Last week Toccoa Falls College had the musical artists NewSong on campus. During their performance they sang a remarkable song titled, Arise My Love. As you listen to the lyrics of that song there is a very powerful sentence that says this, the grave no longer has a hold on you. Think about that sentence for a moment…the grave no longer has a hold on you. This one sentence carries tremendous power and truth for the followers of Christ. We no longer have the shackles of sin or the sting of death hanging over us.
Often we carry our past around with us like shackles, chained to old memories and actions that haunt us and shake our self worth. May I tell you something? As a follower of Christ, the grave no longer has a hold on you. Your past sins have been forgiven, removed and sent as far as the east is from the west. Live in confidence and enjoy a life filled with the power of Christ.
Perhaps you’re not a follower of Christ and sin still does have a hold on you today. The Bible tells us that we have all sinned. If you have never confessed your sins to God and asked for forgiveness, the Bible also makes it very clear that the end result of sin is death.
Here’s the good news. Christ has already paid the price for our sins on the cross. He died on the cross for all our sins. Christ did that so the grave would no longer have a hold on anyone. All we need to do is admit that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead. The Bible tells us that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
C.S. Lewis says this about death, Has this world been so kind to you that you should leave with regret? There are better things ahead than any we leave behind.
Lewis is right. There is no longer any sting of death if you are a follower of Christ. Death is simply the entry point for an eternity with God.
Don’t wait any longer…ask Jesus to be the leader of your life and experience a new life filled with the joy and freedom that come from living for Christ. Then you can truly say that the grave no longer has a hold on you.
I hope you have been taking some time to watch the beautiful transformation of colors during this fall season. The mountains are clearly showing God’s handiwork as they reflect the beautiful reds and yellows that make me want to go for long, peaceful drives through winding mountain roads.
As you look at the beauty in the fall leaves, may I ask you a question? Are you seeing spiritual beauty within you? Are you seeing the kind of beauty that comes from inner change…the change that only Christ can make in your life?
If you truly want to experience a changed life, it is time to turn away from sinful behaviors, turn away from a stagnant, decaying way of life, and simply turn toward Christ. As my friend Pastor White from Mt. Zion church says, “Trust God and watch Him work.” You can’t bring about spiritual change on your own. You must make the decision to trust God and allow Him to change you, and then God will do what He promised. The book of Romans tells us, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
It is time for you to release your hold on your life and turn it over to God. Let Him change your life for good. You will change inwardly, become beautiful in the eyes of the Lord, and become an example of a God-changed life to a world that desperately needs to see the power of God. Your life will take on a spiritual beauty that far exceeds the beauty of any gorgeous fall day.
If God can make fall colors so spectacular to our eyes, just imagine what He can do with your life. Go ahead…trust Him to make a work of art in you!
