I Need A Vacation

When you think about summer what thoughts come to mind? Swimming, picnics, flip-flops and shorts? Well when I think about summer I think about something special to me. What is it? Summer vacation!

Summer vacation is a time for my family to just get away from the routine. It’s a time to re-charge both physically and mentally. My family plans our summer vacation all year long. We decide what we want to do and where we want to go. Often we go to the beach for a few days and then relax at home for a few days more.

During the year when summer vacation seems far away do you often find yourself carrying a heavy burden? Let me quickly define the word burden for you. It means, that which is carried with difficulty or obligation. Are you carrying difficult tasks or responsibilities that just weigh you down almost dropping you to your knees? If that describes you, you are not alone. Two thousand years ago Jesus knew about the burdens you would carry and talks about those burdens in the book of Matthew.

Here is what Jesus said:

Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Jesus was talking to you. He was, and still is, saying follow Me. Let Me take your burdens for you so you don’t strain under the emotional weight.

So as you prepare for summer, BBQ’s, and vacation, why don’t you get rid of some of the burdens you have been dragging around? Go to Jesus and let Him give you rest like no summer vacation ever could. Summer vacation may change you for two weeks but Jesus will change you for a lifetime. Go to Jesus and let Him give you the rest and renewal only found in Christ.
