Drop It!

Each season of year is very special to me. Fall, winter, spring, and summer…they all have their own unique beauty. This time of year I enjoy watching the leaves change to beautiful colors and then fall to the ground.

Do you ever just sit and look out your window? Well, this past week I was doing just that. I noticed leaves falling everywhere. I started to wonder about my life. Is this a good time of year to intentionally drop some of my emotional leaves? How about you? Do you have some leaves to drop? Leaves of worry, leaves of sadness, leaves of hatred, leaves of indifference, leaves of selfishness, leaves of self-pity, leaves of arrogance, leaves of disappointment…is it just time to really shake your tree and get rid of those dead leaves?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful for all of us to move into the Thanksgiving holiday with some of our burdens released and on the ground instead of weights on our shoulders?

I hope you realize that dropping your burdens is really possible and can be a reality in your life. Psalm 55:22 says this:

Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

You see, these leaves…these burdens that you have been living with…just make you tired. It’s like carrying a weight around all the time. It’s always with you and it’s time to get rid of these weights.

Matthew 11:28 says this:

Then Jesus said, Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

So…now is your chance. Take a lesson from the trees in your own yard and drop those dead leaves that have been weighing you down. Throw them off, release the weight and give them to Jesus. Then you will really experience the rest that comes in Christ.
